Material Available Thickness Specifications
Acrylic up to 1"
  • Laser-cut edge is polished and without discoloration.
  • Both clear and color acrylic is the ultimate material for laser cutting; the laser flame polishes the edge as it cuts. Acrylic is both dramatic and durable. No Further treatment is required before painting or mounting.
  • Acrylic is also available in matte, mirror, and other innovative finishes.
  • For interior and exterior use.
Acrylic + Laminate up to 1/2"
  • Laser-cut edge is polished, laminate edge is smooth. Both are without discoloration.
  • Acrylic faced with traditional or metal laminate is a popular combination because it merges the dimension and versatility of acrylic with the vast selection of color, texture, and metal effects of laminate.
  • For interior use only.
Acrylic + Engraving Stock up to 1/2"
  • Laser-cut edge is polished, engraving stock edge is smooth. Both are without discoloration.
  • The combination is an excellent substitute for metal. It is much less expensive than metal lettering but still has the dimension and impact. Engraving stock offers such popular finishes as brushed brass and polished aluminum.
  • For interior use only.
Acrylic + Vinyl up to 1/2"
  • Laser-cut edge is polished on acrylic portion, smooth on vinyl portion, and without discoloration on most combinations.
  • This combination of materials offers the wonderful dimension of acrylic as well as the tremendous range of colors of vinyl. Using vinyl as a facing or backing for acrylic allows for multicolor graphics.
  • For interior and exterior use.
Engraving Stock all available thicknesses
  • Laser-cut edge is excellent and without discoloration.
  • Engraving stock is an inexpensive alternative to metal, offering finishes such as brushed brass or polished aluminum. Alone or in combination with other materials it is a great architectural sign element. 1/32" matte engraving stock is popular for use in ADA letters and symbols.
  • For interior use only, except for ADA signage that is sheltered
Expanded PVC up to 1/2"
  • Laser-cut edge is smooth and some what discolored.
  • Expanded PVC, commonly branded as Sintra®, Celtec®, and Trovecel®, are economical, lightweight, and takes paint well. The edge discoloration of the black is slight, so they can be satisfactory in many instances without further treatment. Some cleaning is required before painting or mounting.
  • Recommended for interior use. Can be used exteriorly if appropriately finished with secondary painting.
Polypropylene up to 1/2"
  • Laser-cut edge is polished is smooth. The face and back have minor lip to the edge.
  • This material is often used for flexible mounting templates to place graphics and is popular for decorative and informative stencils. It is very durable and holds up to paints well.

WOODS

Masonite up to 1/4"
  • Laser-cut edge is very smooth and slightly brown.
  • Masonite is most often used painted, or as a substrate for another material. In addition, Masonite can also be used as an inexpensive reusable template.
  • For interior use only.
Medex/MDO up to 1"
  • Laser-cut edge is very smooth and dark brown.
  • These materials take paint well and costs less than acrylic. Spme cleaning is required before priming and painting.
  • Recommended for interior use. Can be used for some exterior graphics if finished and placed appropriately.
Plywood & Hardwood up to 3/4"
  • Laser-cut edge is very smooth and very dark brown.
  • The dark-brown cut-edge is often used to advantage by sealing the edge and staining the face to create a dark border. Plywood and hard woods are very durable.
  • For interior and exterior use.
Wood Laminate all available thicknesses
  • Laser-cut edge is completely finished and face is without discoloration.
  • Laminate is versatile because it is available in an amazing array of colors and finishes. Most often laminate is used to face dimensional materials such as wood, foam, and acrylic. Matte finish laminate can be used for ADA signs.
  • Wood laminate recommended for interior use only. Some metal laminates can be used exteriorly.

METALS

Almunium up to 1/4"
  • Laser-cut edge is smooth. There is no sanding or deburring needed.
  • For interior and exterior use. Clear coating entire surface is recommended.
Brass up to 1/8"
  • Laser-cut edge is smooth. There is no sanding or deburring needed.
  • Graphic can be brushed to create patterns in the face or treated with secondary finishes creating desired discoloration and colorful effects.
  • For interior and exterior use. Clear coating entire surface is recommended.
Copper up to 1/16"
  • Laser-cut edge is smooth. There is no sanding or deburring needed.
  • Like brass, graphics can be brushed to create patterns in the face or treated with secondary finishes creating desired discoloration and colorful effects.
  • For interior and exterior use. Clear coating entire surface is recommended.
Metal Laminate all available thicknesses
  • Laser-cut edge is smooth. There is no sanding or deburring needed.
  • Aluminum based metal laminate, commonly know as Chemetal®, is versatile because it is available in an amazing array of colors and finishes. Metal laminate can be used alone or to face dimensional materials such as wood, foam, and acrylic.
  • For interior and exterior use. Clear coating is recommended for exterior use.
Mild Steel up to 1/2"
  • Laser-cut edge is smooth and polished. There is no sanding or deburring needed.
  • Metal can be brushed to create patterns in the face or treated with solution to create alternative effects.
  • For interior and exterior use. To prevent rusting, clear coating entire surface is recommended.
Stainless Steel up to 1/2"
  • Laser-cut edge is smooth and polished. There is no sanding or deburring needed.
  • For interior and exterior use. Clear coating is recommended.

OTHERS
Material Available Thickness Specifications
Carpet Low to Medium Pile
  • Carpet cuts extremely well and very fast. The laser seals the edges as it cuts.
  • Laser cutting results in detailed graphics otherwise expensive and sometimes not possible with other methods
Corian up to 1/2"
  • Laser-cut edge is smooth and without discoloration.
  • Corian can be used as inlay material for countertops and decorative walls, or stand alone as dimensional graphics.
  • For interior use only.
Foam up to 2"
  • Laser-cut edge is clean with no distoration. Some fonts and graphics with thin strokes or serifs need to be beefed up or substituted with another material. Foam is available in black up to 1" thick.
  • Note that thicker foam tends to slightly cut concave on the edges.
  • Foam is a great, light-weight, inexpensive solution for interior use and if sealed, for exterior use.
Foam + Laminate or Engraving Stock up to 1"
  • Like acrylic, foam faced with traditional or metal laminate is a popular combination because it merges the laminate or dimension and versatility of acrylic with the vast selection of color, texture, and metal effects of laminate.
  • For interior use only. If using white foam, painted edges recommended as finish.
Linoleum all available thicknesses
  • Laser-cut edge and face are smooth and without discoloration.
  • Linoleum cuts with precision and is perfect for permanent inlay of floor graphics.
  • For interior use only.
